Decentralized gateways for SPACE ID’s .arb (Arbitrum) Name Service using Marlin Oyster
January 24, 2024 | Contributor
We're thrilled to announce that the decentralized gateway for Arbitrum .arb domain name holders on SPACE ID using Marlin Oyster is live! This marks a significant stride in our joint mission of making Web 3 more user-friendly, decentralized, and secure.
Marlin Oyster is a verifiable computing protocol that offers TEE-based coprocessors to process complex workloads asynchronously over a decentralized node network. Services deployed can run for an indefinite amount of time and can even serve TLS requests using HTTPS endpoints, a key requirement for building decentralized gateways, one of the many use cases made possible via the protocol.
SPACE ID is building a one-stop shop for digital identities where users can discover, register, trade, & manage web3 domains (eth, .bnb, .arb, .manta and .inj - with more being powered by the SPACE ID 3.0 infrastructure).
Through this integration, in addition to owning a .arb domain (for Arbitrum) on SPACE ID, users can now link to their IPFS URL and have the community access it by adding “.place” to the end of the domain name, further consolidating their Web 3 identity to one place.
Try out this feature by typing “hostdomain.arb.place” in your browser and watch the magic happen. If you’re curious about how this works under the hood, we’ve covered this in detail as a case study for Bonfida on Solana.
If you have a website, blog or dApp on IPFS, linking that to your .arb domain name on SPACE ID can be done in a few steps:
- Visit the SPACE ID homepage, connect your wallet, go to your profile on the top right and click on ‘My Domains’
- Select the domain which you set the IPFS record to and click on ‘View in Full Page’
- Click on the ‘Edit’ button
- In the pop-up, scroll to the bottom and paste (do not type) the IPFS hash in the ‘Content Hash’ section and click on save and confirm the transaction on MetaMask and you’re good to go.
This shouldn’t take users more than two minutes tops.
Viola! Once the transaction is confirmed on-chain, enter your domain name in a browser with “.place” and it should automatically take you to the IPFS content linked to your domain via a decentralized and secure gateway.
SPACE ID offers Web 3 domains for multiple chains and we’re excited to extend the Oyster’s decentralized gateways capability to other TLDs over the next few weeks.
About SPACE ID
SPACE ID is building a universal name service network with a one-stop identity platform to discover, register, trade, manage web3 domains. It also includes a Web3 Name SDK & API for developers across blockchains and provides a multi-chain name service for everyone to easily build and create a web3 identity.
About Marlin
Marlin is a verifiable computing protocol featuring TEE and ZK-based coprocessors to delegate complex workloads over a decentralized node network. Servers provisioned using smart contract calls host ML models, frontends, MEV or automation bots, or backends for arbitrary computations using external APIs with baked-in auto-scaling and fault tolerance. Marlin is backed by Binance Labs and Electric Capital.
